As requested, this week's post is about vegan beauty products. After a lot of research, these are my top three choices:
Ever heard of LUSH Fresh Handmade Cosmetics?
If your answer was "No," don't feel bad because until a few months ago neither had I. Lush is a fantastic company that prides itself on ethical buying, being handmade, cruelty free and as "naked" (minimal ingredients) as can be. Their products are 100% vegetarian and my favorite part is that they offer lots of Vegan options. If you are local, Lush is at MacArthur Mall in Norfolk and of course they have a website found here. They offer bath, shower, hair, face & body products as well as makeup, perfume, gifts, etc. The coolest product (in my humble opinion) is their solid shampoo and conditioner bars.
As with most vegan/vegetarian products, you may have a bit of sticker shock. You can't compare these products to anything you will find on the shelf at Walmart or your local retainer. It is important to understand what you are investing in. Hopefully, the norm will one day be fair treatment of all animals and organic living. Until then, we must be willing to spend a little more to save lives. The animals will thank you for not being a penny pincher. ;)
Next is TARTE HIGH-PERFORMANCE NATURALS.
This company has a vegan friendly product line and they are also 100% cruelty free, meaning they do not test any of their products on animals. Animal testing is a HUGE issue and makes us vegans very grumpy. I'm sure I will rant in depth about animal testing in another blog post. Anyways, Tarte has makeup and skin care products with all the basics like eye shadows, primers, foundations, eye liner, brushes, makeup removers etc. Check them out at your local Sephora or here.

Just say YESto these products. Yesto is a line that features natural plant based ingredients in a cruelty free zone. All of their ingredients are shown above. The whole idea behind them is saying Yes to life. What would happen if more people said yes to things? Join the #yestomovement here and check out their products. Best of all...Walmart & local drug stores have this stuff.
"The Leaping Bunny is the symbol placed on cruelty-free products regulated by the Coalition for Consumer Information on Cosmetics, CCIC. Companies receive the Leaping Bunny stamp of approval by voluntarily applying to be part of the program and complying with certain regulations that deem them cruelty-free. The Leaping Bunny conducts independent third-party audits on these companies to make sure they are in compliance with CCIC cruelty-free standards. While a great number of Leaping Bunny approved products are both cruelty-free and vegan, the logo does not imply this. The Leaping Bunny logo is a great indicator, but you also need to read the ingredients as some may still be animal derived."
"The Caring Consumer symbol is regulated by PETA. Companies initiate the relationship with PETA to get the symbol on their products. The Caring Consumer bunny always means that your product is cruelty-free but you cannot rely on spotting it to know whether the product is vegan. A variety of cruelty-free, Caring Consumer-approved products are still made with common animal fats. Thankfully, PETA is watching out for all us vegans! They recognized the difference in ingredient make up for vegans and non-vegans. The Caring Consumer bunny will always appear with the words cruelty-free underneath; however many vegan products will say “cruelty-free and vegan” below the bunny emblem. This guarantees that you can skip out on reading the ingredient list. That being said, I have found many Caring Consumer products that do not say “vegan” but, in fact, have no animal-derived ingredients."
